The second Bank Holiday in May proved to be a hot and busy one for some members of the band. BAE Systems Brass Band and Cranbrook Town Band provided the musical entertainment for the Kent Garden Show over the course of the weekend with both bands taking one day each and a joint day where both bands provided members for the band.
Saturday was the first day of the Show and joint band day. Cranbrook’s Musical Director, Ian Lanceley conducted for the day and the combined bands played to very large crowds despite a torrential downpour and thunderstorm just as the show opened its doors.
Sunday was the turn of Cranbrook Town Band and Ian again conducted whilst the band played to a mass of people. This day was extraordinarily hot and the band had to be very careful not to suffer from heatstroke whilst playing.
Monday saw the playing of the BAE Systems Brass Band under their Musical Director, Melvin White and once again, there were a great many people around. Ian is the principal cornet player with BAE Systems Band so Monday rounded off a very busy weekend for him!
There were lots of very pleasing comments about the playing throughout the weekend and one lady took the trouble to email on Monday evening to say that she was house-sitting nearby and that she had thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment on each day.
