BAE Systems Brass Band were delighted to perform at Marden Church during the evening of 21st April 2018.
It was a very warm evening after a hot day and the church was quite pretty cosy by the time the band struck up under the baton of David Lockwood. The temperature soon rose as the band got into its stride with the first half’s offering consisting of:
Cortege from Mlada; My Fair Lady; Gethsemane (soprano cornet soloist: Colin Haynes); Moon River; Zelda (cornet soloist: Ian Lanceley; Let There Be Praise; Over the Rainbow; Bohemian Rhapsody and Don’ Stop Me Now.
After a short break to cool down, the heat was turned up again with a second half of:
Les Miserables; Softly As I Leave You (euphonium duetists: Peter Steer and Phil Neeve); Lambeth Walk; Wonderful Tonight (trombone soloist: Alan Bristow); Yesterday; Puttin’ On The Ritz; New York, New York; Army of the Nile; There’s No Business Like Show Business and, as an encore, Philip Sparke’s arrangement of Birdland.
A very enthusiastic response from the audience and numerous fulsome comments on the band’s performance rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s playing.
The band would like to thank Marden Church for inviting us to perform and David Lockwood for stepping in to conduct and compere the concert
