Originally from Ormskirk Lancashire, David has recently moved to Medway to take up the role of Director of Music at The Rochester Grammar School.
Both David’s parents played in a brass band and David was given a cornet at an early age, he soon settled on trombone and played for a variety of bands such as St Helens Youth Brass Band, Parr Brass Band, Rainford Brass Band and the Pemberton Old Wigan Band. He was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and competed in The National Finals twice at the Albert Hall with Pemberton.
David studied trombone at the Royal Northern College of Music with tutors such as Chris Houlding, Rob Holliday and Roger Cutts. He completed a teacher training course alongside his degree and was a brass teacher for Sefton Music Hub as well as a classroom music teacher in Crosby before teaching for a year in Mexico and most recently, in London.
David conducted the Skelmersdale Prize Band from 2011-2015 in which time he won multiple contest prizes and achieved promotion from the 4th section. David has a variety of conducting experience including directing Choral Evensong at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and conducting the Brook Orchestra.
