David Lockwood grew up in the Medway towns. He was born into a musical family with both his father and mother playing trombone, so it was only natural that both he and his brother would follow in their footsteps.
He was brought up in The Salvation Army and gained lots of valuable experience playing in a wide variety of groups and bands. This experience led to him being asked to conduct the Chatham SA Junior Band and Divisional Youth Band. One of the highlights of his time with The Salvation Army was being asked join The International Staff Band on Bass Trombone.
David joined the military in February 1999 with the Band of the Welsh Guards. This was a proud moment for him as his father was the bass trombone player at that time. After a year serving together, he moved into his father’s seat where he stayed for fourteen years. In April 2014, David was promoted and posted to The Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers, starting a new chapter in his military career. After a great two years, David was posted back to London and to the Band of the Irish Guards, where during the past couple of years was promoted to Sergeant.
David has played Bass Trombone for The Medway Band in 2012 – 2017, also took over as Musical Director for the 1stWhitstable Scout Group Band in the summer of 2014 and still enjoys leading them in all their events today. Then in 2017, David joined BAE SYSTEMS Brass Band on Percussion where he enjoyed performing up until 2020, when he took over as Musical Director as the previous MD moved with work back to Manchester. David is very keen to keep the enthusiasm and excitement of the performances of BAE SYSTEMS Brass Band.
